Facilitate knowledge

I have never understood the role of the teacher as a power structure or as a space for hierarchical instruction. I firmly believe that knowledge comes from everywhere; it shouldn't be held captive by any structure. I believe in spaces for encounter, for sharing knowledge and experiences, spaces for the collaborative construction of knowledge, with the fundamental pillars of active listening, critical thinking, and reflection. This has led me to see myself more as a facilitator, as a change agent with experience in design.

Class room

The classroom as a space for experimentation, a stimulating environment that allows students to understand mistakes as part of the learning process, motivating them to achieve meaningful learning.

Investigation

Participatory action research in design as a fundamental element for students and their interaction with their communities and contexts, fostering human connection, interaction, and an understanding of social realities, in order to collectively generate actions for possible solutions.

research incubator

Through a series of coincidences, during my time as a university professor in Cartagena, a city on Colombia's Caribbean coast, I created and led the research incubator group "La Troja", which worked with one of the peripheral communities Resonar Lab had previously collaborated with: the community of the Gamero district.

In the Colombian Caribbean, a "Troja" is a rustic shelter made of four poles and a roof improvised with palm fronds. It's used in rural areas to protect agricultural products or as a refuge from the sun and rain for farmers. The name is an allegory for preserving the region's traditions and strengthening its expressions, knowledge, and customs.

Participatory Action Research

The village of Gamero is a breeding ground for folk groups from the Caribbean region of Colombia (singers, musicians, dancers). Through participatory action and participatory design processes, a group of students collaborated with community leaders in Gamero to co-create visual communication materials that strengthened the dissemination, preservation, and promotion of their cultural heritage, tailored to the community's unique circumstances and context.

The final products were shared with the entire community at the "Third Annual Voices, Sounds, and Drums Fair."
